Flats is a sculptural footwear work formed from a stiletto that has been split and reconfigured. The heel and toe are separated and extended, creating a flattened plane between them on which the body would stand. This intervention interrupts the logic of elevation traditionally associated with feminine footwear, proposing an alternative stance that is neither raised nor collapsible.

By introducing a level surface between two extreme points of the shoe, the work establishes a new position of balance. The foot is no longer pitched forward or held in tension, but grounded within the space the object creates. This reorientation resists ideals of poise, desirability, and self‑containment historically embedded in the stiletto, replacing them with stability and bodily presence.

Rather than rejecting femininity, Flats reclaims it through construction. The work frames standing as an act of assertion, where wellbeing, self‑determination, and the right to occupy space are materially inscribed. The flattened stance becomes a quiet but insistent proposition: a position defined on one’s own terms, held with weight, clarity, and authority.
